Ceiling Fan Installation

Installing a Ceiling Fan can be a Do-It-Yourself project. However, if you are unfamiliar with wiring, you should use a Qualified Electrician.

Choose a Mounting Option for your Ceiling Fan

Hunter Fan’s unique Installer’s Choice®, WobbleFree™, EasyHang and HandsFree™ ceiling fan canopies found on most models are 3-Position Mounting Systems.

This allows you to mount your Hunter Ceiling Fan flush-to-ceiling for extra clearance and head room, standard ceiling fan hanging, or on a ceiling fan downrod with angled mounting for vaulted ceilings with a pitch as steep as 34°!

See illustration below of Hunter Ceiling Fans 3-Position Mounting System:

Installing your Ceiling Fan

  • Locate a 2" x 4" Ceiling Joint or other suitable support in the ceiling.
  • Drill holes and Insert Wood Screws to Install the Mounting Bracket which is included with your ceiling fan.
  • Lift the Ceiling Fan (most weigh less than 35 pounds).
  • Identify and Connect Electrical Wires as indicated in the Instruction Sheet enclosed with your ceiling fan.
  • Install the ceiling fan blades as indicated in the Instruction Sheet with your ceiling fan.

All wiring must be in accordance with National and Local Electrical Codes.

Hunter Ceiling Fan Light Kits

Many Hunter ceiling fans include integrated light kits packed with the Hunter Ceiling Fan.

Most of these Hunter Ceiling Fan models feature our modular quick connect switch housing that makes assembly of the Hunter Ceiling Fan Light Kit a snap. Other Hunter Ceiling Fan models also include our Easy Lock™ ceiling fan light glass globes or shades. Easy Lock™ ceiling fan glass twists and locks into place, eliminating the need for tools, screws and grommets providing a much cleaner "Fastener Free" appearance of your Hunter Ceiling Fan.

Hunter Ceiling Fan Remote Controls

If the Hunter Ceiling Fan Remote Control you have purchased has a "Receiver", this is installed either inside the ceiling fan canopy or between the ceiling fan canopy and ceiling depending on the Hunter Ceiling Fan Remote Control selected.

Most Hunter Ceiling Fan Wall Controls can be added to your standard "rocker switch" outlet with no extra wiring.

Hunter Ceiling Fan installed on Vaulted Ceilings

The Hunter Ceiling Fans with Installer’s Choice® , WobbleFree™ , EasyHang and HandsFree™ Canopies will accomadate a Ceiling Pitch up to 34° without the purchase of any extra Hunter Fan Accessories.

However, if your ceiling angle is especially steep and exceeds 34° , you should purchase a Hunter Fan Vaulted Ceiling Mount Accessory which will accomadate up to 45° angles.

For cooling, it is most efficient to have the ceiling fan blades 8 to 9 feet above the floor. It is recommended to use an Hunter Ceiling Fan Extension Downrod that lowers your ceiling fan to this level above the floor to insure maximum proformance of you Hunter Ceiling Fan.

Most Hunter Ceiling Fans have 78" Wire Leads.
